The cuts of the turquoise tell the age of this belt. Prior to World War II many turquoise miners would send their rough stones to Germany to be cut. It was inexpensive, and Germany was advanced with manufacturing technology. Miners would get the stones back and make their way to Gallup to sell. You are going to fall in love with the rich colors of the Lone Mountain stones. Also, this belt tells a story that allows you to use your imagination. When you turn the buckle over you will quickly realize it was converted from a concho. Two of the conchos have a different cut of turquoise and stamps. It is amazing how well everything matches and all the pieces are pre-World War II. An old timer suggested it had the feel of a Charles Bitsue piece, whoever made it was very skilled.
