Jonathan Beyuka, Bolo, Buffalo Dancer, Multi Stone Inlay, Zuni Handmade, 46"
Zuni artist Philbert Beyuka specializes in bolos that are styled after the Zuni Kachinas found in ceremonies. Philbert was taught by a Zuni legend, his father Edward Beyuka, and that influence shows in his work. This is a Buffalo dancer that represents abundance, prosperity and has significant ceremonial meaning. It is a very unique figure that has special ceremonial attire and is fashioned with lots of color against the body. Philbert has used jet, shell, coral, and turquoise stones to create the fascinating bolo. The bolo has been placed on a leather cord and has sterling silver tips. The work of the Beyuka's are very collectible and Philbert makes a limited number of figures.
