Derrick Gordon, Bracelet, Kingman Turquoise, Silver Ingot, Navajo Handmade, 7"
Navajo artist Derrick Gordon made this amazing piece of silver and stone using early silversmithing techniques. The technologies around when the Navajo started making silver basically meant that it would be lots of work to pound out the silver into wearable shapes. Derrick makes this style of art beginning with scrap silver that he will melt down and pour into an ingot. Then he uses a combination of heating and hammering until he gets the ingot into the desired thickness and shape. After that he spends a considerable amount of time perfecting his stamp designs. This is work is done to show off the incredible piece of turquoise. The rectangle cut of Kingman Turquoise showcases a deep blue with black web matrix. All of the silver has been given an antique finish that compliments the old style work perfectly. Derrick makes some great pieces of real handmade Navajo silver, make sure you have some of his work in your growing collection.
