When turquoise dealers come through Gallup, New Mexico they are usually either from Colorado or Nevada. The same isn't true for coral dealers. These interesting folks have a connection to Italy and have controlled the coral market for decades. It is also fun to see the many different cuts they have along with the incredible strands of coral beads. They will pull out those huge cabs that can weigh over 100 carats and cost $50 per carat. Coral, like turquoise, just keeps increasing in value. Navajo silversmith Calvin Martinez has taken eleven deep red Mediterranean Coral stones in set them in a classic row style. The silver work surrounding the stones shows the talent of this master silversmith.
