Gallup, New Mexico has a handful of stores that are dedicated to the need of our many local silversmiths. These talented artists always have a need for silver to make their pieces. They will go to a supply house and pay for the silver, a certain price point over market price depending if they need simple plates or fancy wires. Many silversmiths will not use the scrap silver created from making a piece of jewelry and will sell those back to the supply house below market price. Of course, the supply house will resale this scrap to silversmiths who do casting and those who are looking for a less expensive alternative. Navajo silversmith Edison Sandy Smith will always look through this scrap box and pick up usable pieces and once he has enough, he creates one of his amazing pieces. This beautiful bracelet is an example of what he will create from patience.
