Doris Smallcanyon, Necklace, Squash Blossom, Pilot Mountain Turquoise, Navajo, 22"
Doris Smallcanyon, Necklace, Squash Blossom, Pilot Mountain Turquoise, Navajo, 22"
The Squash Blossom is the official necklace of New Mexico. When you drive into Gallup on I-40 from either direction you will see large billboards advertising local businesses that sell authentic Native American arts and crafts. Many use a squash blossom to decorate those billboards. Navajo silversmith Doris Smallcanyon specializes in the Squash Blossom and makes them over and over. This is her signature look, a classic Navajo blossom design. She decorates the blossoms with single Pilot Mountain stones and a rustic brushed finish. The naja is a classic crescent shape decorated with three more stones. Strung on sterling silver beads, makes this gorgeous piece of handmade Navajo silver.
