Edison Sandy Smith, Pendant, Blue Gem Turquoise, Navajo Handmade, 2 1/2"
Edison Sandy Smith, Pendant, Blue Gem Turquoise, Navajo Handmade, 2 1/2"
Navajo artist Edison Sandy Smith is very popular with collectors. He doesn't make some trendy piece of contemporary art, instead he works like his ancestors and continues to make traditional Navajo silver. What makes his work so collectible is the attention to detail, the look of his silver, and when he uses turquoise he always shapes the stone into a desirable shape. This pendant displays an incredible piece of classic Blue Gem Turquoise that has gorgeous shades of blue and hints of green around the golden matrix. Edison has surrounded the stone with a simple twisted wire. It has been a long time since we have had a piece like this from Edison, we usually see his rings and cuffs, so a nice surprise. He made this piece for the collector who really appreciates traditional Navajo silver and legendary American stone.
