Navajo silversmith Edison Sandy Smith talks about how when he was young his parents would spend hours making heishe and drilling turquoise beads. We think of this style as being Santo Domingo, but a number of Navajo smiths made their own beads. This incredible three strand set is from the mid 1900s and beautifully done. It is a combination shell and turquoise. The turquoise is a combination of American mines and has large and small pieces to give it that unique look. Hanging from the bottom of the three stands is a classic jacla. You can tell from the color found in the jacla that these are high grade beads. It is completed with a classic yarn wrap.
