Vintage Navajo Handmade Bracelet, Number Eight Turquoise, C. 1940s, 6 3/4"

Vintage Navajo Handmade Bracelet, Number Eight Turquoise, C. 1940s, 6 3/4"
When the Navajos began making jewelry in the 1800s they didn't use turquoise. However, it didn't take long before this stone would become the most common adornment of Navajo silver. Turquoise has become such an important part of Navajo jewelry that collectors look for certain mines. Number Eight Turquoise was first believed to be used in Navajo silver in the early 1900s. Collectors from around the world know this legendary Nevada rock. It became famous for the deep blue and spider web turquoise. The most desired look is blue with black spider web matrix, just like this circa 1940s Navajo cuff. You will find a collection of eighteen stones that display that most coveted color on the five twisted wire bracelet.
