Joseph Quintana, Concho Belt, Circa 1960s, Villa Grove Turquoise, Cochiti,

Joseph Quintana, Concho Belt, Circa 1960s, Villa Grove Turquoise, Cochiti,
Some pieces of wearable art are more important than others, especially when they are made by legends of silver. Cochiti Pueblo silversmith Joseph H. Quintana is a very important figure within his tribe and to the history of Native American silver. His family continues a tradition he started in the early 1900s of making fine quality traditional silver work. This belt came to us from a private collection and is stamped by the artist and believed to have been purchased new in the 1960s. The stones are beautiful pieces of Colorado's Villa Grove Turquoise. You will find the belt consists of eight conchos, each with one stone in the center of a deep repousse stamp, and a buckle with a cluster of four gorgeous stones. His work is found in many museums and Joseph is one of the most recognized students of Frank Patania.
