Navajo artists love to combine different colored stones into their artwork. The most common of these being blue turquoise and red coral. However, this circa 1990s belt made by Navajo artist Tommy Jackson has a different color combination. He has used deep purple sugilite against radiant pink coral. The two colors were made for each other. Tommy inlays them stone to stone to create this rug inspired design. All three mirror shined pieces of sterling silver have been attached to genuine purple dyed leather for the matching finish. Today, Tommy has become so popular and markets his styles so well that other smiths help him with the process. However, the age of this might just mean this is an all Tommy Jackson creation. In the 1990s he was making lots of heavy silver and bold inlay designs, long before it became common.
